Blog 11_Project Semester 2

FYP Project                    K00121609                          March 2017

Blog 11:

This was the presentation step of the project. Requirements covered in presentation were:

  • Wireframe
  • Navigation structure
  • Moodboard
  • User requirements
  • User testing

My approach to this was to present the process of the project development in a slide sequence in MS. PowerPoint. I have completed a lot of work on this, therefore, it was important to present the most important points within this framework.

I find that in the creative process sometimes after general research and evolution of ideas for layouts and colour schemes that it works to develop an initial prototype of what the finished project would look like and contain.

Here I did just that, and once I had established the content and its arrangement I then revisited my moodboard and concept development to tweak the content.

There were 12 slides in the presentation. For this I prepared slides that contained both a lot of detail and standout points of images/text. The thinking here was that I would speak about the stand out points and that the more detailed information would act as a backdrop or reference point for my presentation talk.

There was a time limit on the presentation and I went over this time. While I had prepared for the 5 minutes I found when I was making the presentation, I elaborated beyond the time. This is something I will have to practice further.

Next, I will do a walk-through of the presentation:

Slide 1:

This is the title of the project "Design Your Day Your Way-A Life Management Toolkit." How I came up with the title was to represent a website/app that focuses people into the present which is "Mindfulness," for life management i.e. to focus on the 'day.'

In utilizing RSA resources and listening to TED Talks, (associated with this RSA Brief 2 I have selected) which represent the cutting edge in cultural and societal trends today, the emphasis is on a "holistic approach to healthcare."

Here it has been shown beyond any reasonable doubt, through qualitative and quantitative research, that what was once a concept is now a reality.

An RSA reference book by Dan Lockton implements this idea in his book which he says is for "designing with people" rather than "for people," hence, the "Design Your Day Your Way" part of the title.

The toolkit aspect suggests activities which is a strong element of this project. These you could use or might expect instructions to use, nevertheless it looks possible, and hence may capture audience attention as a title in marketing terms.

Slide 2:

This is the about the project slide, rationale, aims and objectives. To the right are key terms for "Search Engine Optimization."

Slide 3:

This is the moodboard for the project. This shows my design thinking of flowing, dynamic images, full of movement, the night sky and celestial system, for knowledge. There is the celestial system which links to the roots of mindfulness in philosophy, that is today evidenced in qualitative research.

For the colour swatch selection, I did a manual colour swatch development in Adobe and the other in Pictaculous where I inputted an image and the software created a swatch based on the weighting of the image colors.

I selected an external font from Adobe Fonts of Myriad Pro. This is available on most PCs and so users would not encounter problems of having to download exclusive fonts on opening of files. While, it is available on most PC's I am uploading it as an external font to show this process.

The owl is an icon for the project and is placed between images from two of my competitor analysis websites, one is very calm and the other is intense. My idea here is the middle ground, that this website would be about activities for stimulation, relaxation, or simply to take a break.

Slide 4:

This page is an Adobe Illustrator designed version of the Landing/Home page and its content in points to the right of the slide. All the slides follow a similar trend as from the one primary template design, with variations in their content for recognizably.

Slide 5:

This is an example of a main page design using heuristic guiding principles as stated on the information section at right of page and are subsequent to the main page, that has a slightly different layout to the other pages that sets it apart as the main page.

Slide 6:

This page shows some of the project pages and how they relate to each-other as a pattern. I first sketched outlines of the pages and then developed them further in Adobe Illustrator as above.

Slide 7:

This slide states the features and content of the topic pages:
  • Landing/Home
  • Life Tracker
  • Life Management Media and Society
  • Activities to do in < 5 minutes
  • Seasonal Newsletter

Slide 8:

This is the landing page. It presents well on the laptop, however on smaller screen image view and on distant views the information appears blurred. I have learned from this step of the process to use black color font in these diagrams.

Slide 9:

This slide is about the development of archetype persons, primary and secondary users and use types.

Slide 10:

This above is an example of a typical persona of a person I have interviewed to gain insight into usability, user requirements and ideas for the development of the website/app. From the personas I assembled "User Requirements" and  have put together a list to the left of screen.

Slide 11:

This is a list of testing methods for the website.

Slide 12:

This slide shows the Gantt Chart of work schedule. This step represents tasks 5 and 6. The next step is task 7: Presentation of First Prototype.
